I am a Professional Member (MICFor), a Chartered Arboriculturist & Registered Consultant with the Institute of Chartered Foresters (ICF). The Institute of Chartered Foresters Register of Consultants contains the names of tree professionals who specialise in forest, woodland and tree management. They are all Members or Fellows of the Institute of Chartered Foresters and have been vetted for their professionalism, qualifications, and experience. They provide the highest standard of professional advice available in the UK and are bound to the Institute’s Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct (source: - www.charteredforesters.org).
I am an Arboricultural Association (AA) Professional Member (M.Arbor.A.). Professional Membership of the Arboricultural Association is open to arboriculturists whose competence satisfies the Association’s Board of Trustees by qualification or assessment and who have been members for at least two years.
I am a Chartered Surveyor (MRICS) with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors is the pre-eminent organisation of its kind in the world.
I am a Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv) with the Society of the Environment (SocEnv). The Society for the Environment is a leading independent, non-political umbrella organisation for environmental and sustainability professionals.
I am a Chartered Member (MCIOB) of the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB). CIOB members are construction professionals with a common commitment to achieving and maintaining the highest possible standards. Chartered Member status, and the designation MCIOB is recognised and respected internationally as the mark of true construction professionalism.
I hold the Higher National Diploma in Arboriculture, HND (Arb), awarded by the University of Sunderland (UCAS Code 015D); accredited by the Institute of Chartered Foresters (ICF). I also hold the National Certificate in Horticulture (Arboriculture), NCH (Arb), the certificate in Arboriculture awarded by the Royal Forestry Society, Cert Arb (RFS), and in 1998, I became one of the first International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Licensed Certified Arborists, Cert Arb (ISA) within the UK. I have been assessed through examination by the Arboricultural Association, to carry out Professional Tree Inspections, and I am LANTRA qualified to carry out Tree Inspections, and I am LANTRA trained to assess trees for the presence of bats (I am also a member of the Dorset Bat Group). I also hold the National Examination Board Certificate in Supervisory Management.
Relevant experience
My experience within the arboricultural profession began in 1986, when I worked for a tree work contractor, and started the City & Guilds, Amenity Horticulture, Phase 2, Year 3 (Arboriculture) part-time course, at Myerscough College, Bilsborrow, Preston, Lancashire PR3 0RY. After gaining the qualification, I became a climbing Arborist in 1987, and worked for three years before starting the National Certificate in Horticulture (Arboriculture), a one-year full-time course in 1990 at Durham College of Agriculture & Horticulture, Durham, DH1 3SG. Having obtained the qualification NCH (Arb) in 1991, I worked as a climbing Arborist for another year, before starting the Higher National Diploma in Arboriculture in 1992 at Durham College of Agriculture & Horticulture. On graduating with the HND (Arb) in 1994, I was employed by Bournemouth Borough Council as a Tree Officer (Woodland Conservation Officer). I was a Tree Officer for nine years, until I left my employment with Bournemouth Borough Council in 2003, to become an independent Arboricultural Consultant. For the last six years, I have been an independent Tree & Landscape Consultant, with my company KJF Tree & Landscape Consultancy (a Division of KJF Tree Care Ltd, Registered Company No. 5232907 / Registered Office: The Solutions Centre Ltd, 218 Malvern Road, Bournemouth BH9 3BX / VAT Registration Number 892 4058 04).
I have twenty-three years experience within the arboricultural profession. I have five years experience as a climbing Arborist, working in the UK, the Republic of Ireland and the Netherlands, and nine years experience as a Local Authority Tree Officer. I have six years experience as an independent Consultant with KJF Tree & Landscape Consultancy. My specialist field is trees in relation to construction; I produce arboricultural reports as supporting information for planning applications that include: Tree Surveys, AutoCAD Horizontal Shadow Profiles, Arboricultural Implications Assessments, Arboricultural Method Statements, AutoCAD Tree Protection Plans, specifications and relevant technical information. I also produce AutoCAD Soft Landscaping Plans as supporting information for planning applications and/or to Discharge Planning Conditions.
I also provide Home Buyer's Reports for Mortgage Lenders, carry out Tree Inspections (using Decay Detection Equipment where necessary) and produce Tree Works Schedules with Recommendations for Tree Works, and produce Tree Work Planning Applications. In addition, I deal with Planning Appeals (relating to trees) and I provide Planning Statements (relating to trees). I am also trained to use the air spade, used to excavate around tree roots (without damage) and for aeration/decompaction of tree roots.
As a Chartered Environmentalist, I produce reports that include Bat Surveys (presence/absence surveys), Japanese Knotweed Management Plans, Phase 1 & 2 Habitat Surveys, as supporting information for Planning Applications and/or to discharge Planning Conditions. As a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Building, I produce AutoCAD Hard Landscaping Plans that Include Drainage Systems, Foundation Design, Layout of Car Parking Spaces, SUDS, Surfacing, Vehicle Access & Circulation and Visibility Splays, as Supporting Information for Planning Applications and/or to Discharge Planning Conditions.
